The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is shifting more of its 2027 election mobilisation toward local governments and wards, signalling a more decentralised campaign strategy as political activities gradually intensify across the state.
The decision, reported following a Lagos APC stakeholders’ meeting, means campaign organisation is expected to move closer to grassroots structures rather than remaining concentrated primarily at the state level.
For communities such as Kosofe, Agboyi-Ketu and Ikorodu, the development could significantly increase the political importance of ward executives, LGA party leaders, councillors, youth and women structures, community influencers and local mobilisation networks.
The development also comes alongside fresh discussions among prominent Lagos political actors over grassroots mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr. Obafemi Hamzat ahead of the 2027 elections.
On August 13, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, met former senator Musiliu Obanikoro at an APC campaign office in Ikeja.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the meeting centred on grassroots mobilisation and preparations for the political activities ahead.
The meeting provides another indication that the emerging Lagos campaign structure is increasingly focusing on organisation below the state level.
Why the Ward Strategy Matters
Election campaigns ultimately depend on organisation at polling-unit, ward and local-government levels.
