LAWMA Intensifies Waste Evacuation Efforts, Assures Lagos Residents of Improved Service Delivery
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has assured residents that comprehensive measures are being implemented to improve waste evacuation and environmental sanitation across Lagos State.
According to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Authority has already commenced a series of interventions aimed at addressing operational challenges and strengthening waste management infrastructure statewide.
Key interventions include:
✅ Rehabilitation of access routes to the Olusosun disposal facility to improve operational efficiency.
✅ Revitalisation of Transfer Loading Stations (TLSs) to accelerate waste evacuation from communities.
✅ Deployment of additional waste collection vehicles, including 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) compactor trucks.
✅ Introduction of 10 new compactor trucks donated by the Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Board.
✅ Intensified enforcement against indiscriminate waste disposal and environmental violations.
✅ Establishment of a Waste Police initiative involving transport unions, community groups, and stakeholders to improve compliance and discourage illegal dumping.
LAWMA disclosed that despite operational challenges, disposal facilities received over 418,500 tonnes of waste in May 2026, while approximately 3,000 waste blackspots are currently being cleared daily across the state.
The Authority also revealed that new Transfer Loading Stations under construction at Olusosun and Solous III will collectively divert up to 4,000 tonnes of waste daily to recycling and treatment facilities upon completion, supporting Lagos State’s circular economy and sustainability agenda.
