LAGOS ASSEMBLY COMMENDS MAYOR EMILAGBA’S PERFORMANCE AFTER 11 MONTHS IN OFFICE
Lawmakers Praise Infrastructure, Healthcare, Education, Security and Youth Empowerment Initiatives in Lagos Mainland

The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development has commended the Executive Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Mayor (Dr.) Jubril Kolawole Emilagba, for what lawmakers described as significant developmental achievements recorded within just eleven months of his administration.
The commendation came during an official oversight and inspection visit by members of the committee, who toured completed and ongoing projects across Lagos Mainland and assessed several intervention programmes implemented by the council.
Leading the delegation, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Babatunde Ganiyu Okanlawon, expressed satisfaction with the pace of development witnessed across the local government area, noting that the projects and initiatives undertaken by the administration have positively impacted residents and improved public service delivery.
Infrastructure Development Takes Centre Stage
Among the projects inspected were the rehabilitation of Una Primary School and Kadara Primary School, the reconstruction of Jebba Road by Oshalanke, and the upgrade of the Odaliki Police Post into a fully operational police station.
The lawmakers also evaluated newly rehabilitated drainage channels, box culverts, and ongoing desilting operations aimed at improving environmental sanitation and reducing flooding within the community.
One of the flagship initiatives highlighted during the visit was the “Light Up Lagos Mainland” project, through which over 400 streetlights have reportedly been installed across strategic locations in the local government.
According to the committee, the initiative has contributed to improved visibility, enhanced public safety, and strengthened security across several neighbourhoods.
Healthcare and Social Welfare Programmes
The committee also praised the administration’s investments in healthcare infrastructure, particularly the upgrades carried out at Abule Nla Primary Health Centre and Simpson Primary Health Centre.
Lawmakers described the projects as important interventions that would improve access to healthcare services and strengthen community wellbeing.
Beyond infrastructure, the committee acknowledged several social intervention programmes introduced by the council, including:
• Monthly “Ounje Emi” food support programme serving over 3,000 residents.
• Free hernia surgeries for 34 beneficiaries.
• Free eye surgeries for 10 residents.
• Medical outreach programmes.
• Distribution of corrective eyeglasses.
• Welfare support for widows and vulnerable residents.
Education and Youth Development
The administration also received commendation for its investments in education and youth empowerment.
According to the committee, the council distributed:
• 500 GCE registration forms.
• 750 JAMB registration forms.
• More than 100,000 exercise books to pupils across public schools.
Lawmakers further disclosed that over ₦300 million has been invested in various empowerment programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and creating opportunities for residents.
These initiatives include:
• Technology training for teachers.
• Vocational and skills acquisition programmes.
• Summer coaching classes.
• Youth football competitions.
• Employment-focused interventions.
Security and Economic Empowerment
The committee also praised the distribution of seven operational vehicles to security agencies and fourteen buses to entrepreneurs and residents as part of the administration’s empowerment strategy.
Other notable initiatives highlighted include:
• Market fumigation exercises.
• Procurement of a staff bus for workers.
• The introduction of the “A Day Chairman” programme designed to encourage youth participation in governance and leadership.

The oversight visit reflects the important role of legislative monitoring in ensuring accountability and evaluating the performance of local governments.
While commendations from oversight committees are significant, residents will ultimately assess governance based on the visible impact of projects, improved public services, economic opportunities, and quality of life within their communities.
