Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has directed all commercial tricycle and minibus operators across the state to register on the government’s digital transport database, describing the initiative as a critical step towards enhancing security and protecting commuters.
The governor said the digital registration exercise is designed to create a comprehensive database of commercial transport operators, making it easier for authorities to identify drivers and vehicles operating within the state.
According to him, the initiative forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to improve public safety, strengthen security architecture and modernise the transport sector through technology-driven solutions.
Governor Eno noted that maintaining an accurate digital record of commercial transport operators would assist security agencies in tracking criminal activities, responding more effectively to emergencies and ensuring greater accountability within the sector.
He urged all tricycle and minibus operators to comply with the directive, stressing that the exercise is intended not only to improve security but also to safeguard the interests of both transport operators and the commuting public.
The governor added that a well-organised transport database would enhance planning and regulation, while supporting the state’s vision of building a safer and more efficient public transportation system.
The digital registration initiative is expected to capture essential information about operators and their vehicles, enabling government agencies to maintain up-to-date records for regulatory and security purposes.
