7 Teachers. 39 Children. More Than Just Numbers.
These are not mere statistics. They represent empty desks in our classrooms, silenced laughter in our schoolyards, and a painful void in the heart of our nation.
The abduction of teachers and schoolchildren is not only an attack on individuals and families; it is an attack on education, hope, and the future we are striving to build. Every child taken away from the safety of the classroom is a dream interrupted. Every teacher lost is a guiding light removed from the path of learning.
As educators, our responsibility extends far beyond the walls of the classroom. Our duty does not end at the chalkboard. We cannot remain silent while the very minds we are committed to nurturing are being torn away from the sanctuary of education. True leadership demands action. It requires us to step into the spaces where decisions are made and advocate for the safety and protection of every child and educator.
At the APC Progressive Teachers’ Congress, we stand firmly at the intersection of professional dedication and political advocacy. We believe governance must never lose its human face. Our mission is to bring the compassion of a parent, the commitment of a teacher, and the courage of a responsible citizen into the halls of leadership and public policy.
Guided by our vision of breaking barriers and building a brighter future, we recognize a painful reality: we cannot build tomorrow when our present is being held captive. Silence in the face of injustice is not neutrality—it is complicity. This is why we are breaking the barrier of political passivity and raising our collective voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
From the grassroots communities of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA Zone to the national stage, we must unite in demanding swift, decisive, and effective action. The safety of our children and teachers must become a national priority.
We call upon every leader, policymaker, stakeholder, and citizen to look beyond the numbers and see the human faces behind this tragedy. Education cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear. Progress cannot be built on anxiety and uncertainty.
