Kosofe Political Watch
The Lagos State Government has officially installed HRM Oba Kabir Adesegun Saliu as the new traditional ruler of the Olu Oko Baba Agba Kingdom in Kosofe Local Government Area. The ceremony was held at Kosofe Local Government headquarters and included representatives of the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Kosofe council officials, traditional rulers and community leaders.
Why it matters: this is a substantive change in Kosofe’s traditional-governance structure. Traditional institutions remain influential in community mobilisation, dispute resolution, grassroots consultation and the political relationships that develop around ward and LGA structures. With political organisation increasingly moving toward the grassroots ahead of 2027, the emergence of a newly recognised monarch is worth tracking without assuming any political alignment.
What is verified: Oba Kabir Adesegun Saliu has been formally installed; the Olu Oko Baba Agba Kingdom is within Kosofe and borders Oworonshoki; Kosofe Vice Chairman Hon. Wole Sosanya attended on behalf of the council leadership; and the Lagos State Government was represented by senior officials of the relevant ministry.
What remains unclear: no material reviewed so far establishes the new monarch’s political relationships, policy priorities, community-development agenda, or whether Hon. Kafilat Ogbara or Mayor Dele Oshinowo played any formal role in the installation.
